ARTIST STATEMENT

"My art is inspired by the quiet details of nature and life —trees, birds, and the rhythms of the natural world around me. Through expressive drawing, encaustic layering and other media, I translate these impressions into textured, and organic expressive works that speak to both vulnerability and strength.

Creating art is how I make sense of what I see and feel."

"The strength, compassion, and determination of my art mentors such as , Sam Gilliam, David Driskell , Keith Morrison, and so many more, impressed me with their abilities to balance family and art making and influenced my paintings and my artistic life over the years. These individuals have been and still are so important to me and in my wanting to continue my work in the studio.

In looking back, through teaching others, I have grown in my technique and my passion for wanting to express myself through my chosen media.

My mentors are always in my thoughts while I am making art as I hope that my influence in mentoring others, will have a continued , positive impact on their lives as future art makers."
